I just returned from an incredible trip to Exeter, England for an amazing climbing competition. The competition, called "Deep Water Solo Exeter" was put on by The Quay Climbing Centre in beautiful Exeter over a canal.
For a quick recap of my trip before the competition, I spent a few days in London exploring the sights. I was a big jet-lagged, but it was great to get out and see the city. One of my favorite parts of London was seeing The Mouse Trap by Agatha Christie. I am a huge mystery fan and have always wanted to see this play, so I was thrilled to make it happen.
After hanging around in London, we made the quick drive to Exeter to start preparing for the competition. On Friday night, I gave my first slideshow and met many of the spectators and competitors. It was very fun to give my first slideshow and to meet everyone!
The competition ran with qualifiers on Saturday & semi-finals and finals on Sunday. I received an invitation to semi-finals, so I was able to watch the competition on Saturday and get in a quick session at The Quay Climbing Centre to get my body warmed up.
Semi-finals was single attempt, with 3 minutes per problem and 6 minutes rest between the 3 problems. I flashed all 3 problems, along with Michaela Tracy and Emma Twyford.
Finals ran into a format similar to semi-finals, with a single attempt on 1 problem within 5 minutes. The problem was powerful at the bottom and more technical at the top, traversing almost the entire wall. I fell a few holds from the top, while Michaela Tracy climbed further than I did. This put me in 2nd place, just ahead of Emma Twyford. These ladies (along with my other competitors) are incredible climbers and I am honored to have competed with them.
I was absolutely stoked with my performance at Deep Water Solo Exeter and cannot wait to continue training and for my upcoming competitions.
The following day I spent visiting Stonehenge and making the drive back to London for my flight home. Stonehenge was amazing, I cannot believe that I have been such a sight!
Overall, I had an incredible time in England and cannot wait to make another trip!
On to the next adventure...
