What an incredible week/weekend! I just arrived home from the first ever deep water soloing (psicobloc) competition to take place on US soil.
Psicocomp was held at the Utah Olympic Park over the pool that the aerialist use to practice their tricks. The wall was about 50 ft. tall, making the fall into the water very intimidating!
In addition to Psicocomp, I was also in Utah for the Summer Outdoor Retailer Trade Show. OR is always a great time, it is so much fun to catch up with sponsors and to see all of my friends.
The trip started off on Tuesday, where I flew into Salt Lake with my parents. That night I attended an athletes meeting that briefed us on the competition and gave us sometime to all hangout. Qualifiers began on Wednesday.
Since I had an invite to finals, I did not have to compete in qualifiers on Wednesday. I spent Wednesday at the trade show and enjoying a relaxing night in preparation for Thursday.
Thursday was a whirlwind day; I attended the trade show, went bobsledding with Shon Bollock (a professional kayaker on the Sanuk team), and had a practice round for Psicocomp. The practice round took place on the final routes. It was awesome to be able to work the routes and get used to falling. Bobsledding was a lot of fun as well, it definitely hurt a lot less than the first time I tried to bobsled, although I may have hurt Shon's shins a little bit!
Finals took place on Friday night. The format was head to head elimination. In each bracket a climber moved on to the next round by reaching the high point first or getting the high point. I competed against Vikki Weldon in my bracket. Although I did not win, I had an incredible time climbing on the wall and doing my best!
It was so exciting to watch the rest of Psicocomp, especially some of the close races for the men! Psicocomp was a great competition and I hope they will continue to have more of them!
That about sums up my amazing week/weekend, what awesome memories!
On to the next adventure...
